HALL HISTORY
Constructed as a male, freshman residence hall in 1936 and dedicated in honor of Rev. John W. Cavanaugh, Notre Dame's fifth president; When constructed, the hall was the first North Quad residence hall; Originally housed 196 men; Renovated in 1989; Converted to a women's residence hall in 1994 as a result of increasing enrollment of women; Chapel was renovated in 2000 and now offers air conditioning; Conveniently located next door to the LaFortune Student Center and Washington Hall; Notable residents include Tim Brown '88 (Heisman Trophy winner); Active hall government coordinates events such as dances, educational presentations, and a very successful Father-Daughter and Mother-Daughter Weekends held every other year in the spring.
ROOM INFORMATION
Cavanaugh Hall offers a variety of room configurations, most of which are singles and doubles. There are also rooms that are 3-person suites and 4-person suites.

Amy de la Torre returns to South Bend from Cooperstown, NY, with a wealth of professional experience. Following her graduation from Saint Mary’s College in South Bend in 1975 with a B.A. in Government and Sociology, Amy attended Indiana University–Bloomington, where she earned an M.A. in Policy Analysis and Management.

Since 2003, Amy has been working in fund development at Mary Imogene Basset Hospital in Cooperstown, NY. She has an impressive background as both a teacher and administrator, having taught both high school and college Spanish, and worked with at-risk teens and young adults. Amy served for six years as the administrative director of education for St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cooperstown, where she coordinated all academic and volunteer K-12 programs, trained instructors, and taught middle and high school classes. She also has a great deal of experience with grant writing and fundraising. Amy is the mother of three children, two of whom attended Notre Dame. She loves reading and sports, and will play Scrabble anytime, anywhere!
