HALL
HISTORY
Originally constructed in 1888 as a residence hall for 50 men; Was constructed
as the first separate facility used as a residence hall because Fr. Sorin believed better quarters were needed to cultivate senior's scholarship; First hall to offer private
rooms through the academic rank room selection process; First
residence hall at a Catholic college to offer single rooms to
residents; Originally was to be named Collegiate Hall, but was
renamed Sorin Hall at its dedication in honor of Fr. Sorin's
golden jubilee; North and south wings added in 1897; Past residents
include: Knute Rockne, Moose Krause, and Heisman trophy winners
Lujack, Lattner and Hornung, and other football legends including
Rocky Bleier and Dave Casper. Also, each of the four horsemen lived in Sorin. Current residence for Fr. Malloy President Emeritus; Residents believe rubbing the right
foot of the statue of Fr. Sorin in the main entrance will bring
good luck. |

INFORMATION
A great deal of room arrangements can be found in Sorin. 25% of the rooms are singles and 27% are doubles, while about
25% are triples. Remaining rooms include quads, 3-man suites,
and 4-man suites. |

Fr. Jim King,
C.S.C. is originally from Chicago, Illinois. He served as the Director of Vocations for
the Congregation of Holy Cross (Indiana Province) for the past
eight years. He is graduate of Notre Dame and received a B.A.
from Notre Dame in Government in 1981. He then entered Moreau
Seminary and earned his Master of Divinity degree in 1987. He
was ordained a Holy Cross priest in 1988 and spent two years
as an assistant rector and freshman seminar instructor before
leaving for the University of Wisconsin where he earned an M.A.
in Political Science. Subsequently, Fr. King spent five years
at the University of Portland as a history instructor, rector,
assistant director in the Alumni Office, and one year as director
of the University's Salzburg foreign study program prior to
returning to Notre Dame in 1997.
