  1. How do I apply for housing?
    I am an incoming student, how do I apply for housing?

    Once you are admitted and confirmed as a student by the University and have an active e-mail address, you are considered eligible to apply for housing. To qualify to live in the FOG complex, you must be a non-married graduate student.

    To apply, go to inside.nd.edu, then click the Student Life tab at the top of the screen.  Within the Student Life tab, locate the Residence Life and Housing channel. There, you will find links for undergraduate and graduate housing.  Select your appropriate application.

  2. What if I am married, but my spouse is not coming with me?

    If you are a married student, you are eligible to live in the Cripe Street and/or University Village apartments.

  3. What are the rates charged for the FOG complex? Is there a deposit?

    Rates and deposit information may be found on the Student Accounts website at http://www.nd.edu/~stdacct/Rates/rates.shtml

  4. Is there a waiting list?

    On May 1 we will conduct a lottery for all incoming FOG applicants.  You must apply before 8AM on May 1 to be involved in the lottery.  Otherwise you will be added to the waiting list, which typically is a short.  You will be contacted if an apartment becomes available

  5. What types of apartments are available at the FOG complex?

    The Fischer apartments are fully furnished, air-conditioned, two bedroom, one bathroom apartments designed for unmarried male or unmarried female graduate students.

    The O’Hara-Grace apartments are fully furnished, non-air-conditioned, four bedroom, one and one-half bathroom townhouses designed for unmarried male and unmarried female graduate students.

  6. What types of furniture are provided in each apartment?

    The apartments are furnished with living room furniture including a couch, chairs, end tables, and lamps. The kitchen area includes a dining table and chairs. Each bedroom is furnished with a twin bed, desk, desk chair, lamp, and built-in shelving.

  7. What size are the beds?

    The bedrooms in the Fischer apartments have an 80” twin mattress (extra-long twin) and the bedrooms in the O’Hara-Grace apartments have 76” twin mattresses (standard twin size).

  8. Are window coverings provided?

    Yes. All windows in each apartment have some type of window cover; typically blinds or curtains.

  9. What appliances are in the kitchen?

    Each apartment has a full-size refrigerator and a stove. Microwaves, utensils and small appliances are not provided.

  10. Are the apartments equipped with a washer and dryer?

    No. There are two laundry rooms available for use (one within the Fischer Community Center and another in Wilson Commons.

  11. What types of things should I bring with me?

    Personal care items, linens and blankets, and extra storage for books and personal items.

  12. May I bring my pet with me?

    Animals of any kind are prohibited in University owned housing facilities at all times. This policy extends to guests who may also wish to bring pets. The only exception is non-carnivorous freshwater fish in an aquarium (up to 30 gallons).

  13. Is a telephone included in the apartment?

    Yes. A telephone, complete with campus and local phone service is included in your housing rates.

  14. What about long-distance service?

    Many students opt to purchase long-distance calling cards. In addition, long-distance service may be arranged by contacting the Office of Telecommunications http://oit.nd.edu/telecommunications at (574)634-4150 or by visiting their website.

  15. Can I get an extension or private line in my bedroom area?

    Yes, private numbers are available for a fee. You may request a private number by contacting our office at (574)631-5878.

  16. Can I get insurance to cover the loss of personal property?

    We encourage students to consider purchasing renter’s insurance to protect your possessions. For more information, visit our link at http://orlh.nd.edu/housing/undergraduate/general/insurance.htm.

  17. Is the community quiet?

    There is a quiet-hours policy for the FOG complex that states all residents are obliged to keep all noisy activity to a minimum from 10:00 PM to 10:00 AM.

  18. Do I need a car?

    Because the FOG apartments are located on campus, you will not need a car to drive to classes. You may want to have a car for various off campus needs.

  19. Is parking available?

    Yes, resident parking is available upon purchase of a valid permit from Notre Dame Security Police (NDSP). Visit their website at http://www.nd.edu/~ndspd/ for more information.

  20. Can I bring my bicycle?

    Many students find bicycles useful for navigating the campus. Bicycle racks are provided outside of most buildings and students are encouraged to use the racks to lock up their bikes when not in use.   21. Is there bicycle storage during the winter?

  22. What are other forms of transportation?

    There are local cab services, a free shuttle service between Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s College, and free public transportation (Transpo). Transpo has pick-up spots around campus; for bus route information and shuttle schedules you may visit the information desk at LaFortune Center.

  23. How convenient is shopping?

    A shopping complex is located approximately six blocks from campus. Other, larger shopping areas are located approximately five miles away and are accessible by car or via public transportation.

  24. What is my mailing address?

    You can determine your mailing address by reviewing the appropriate way to address your mail.
