Read Your Answer :
  1. I am an incoming student, how do I apply?

Once you are admitted and confirmed as a student by the University and have an active Notre Dame e-mail address, you are considered eligible to apply for the housing Wait List.

To apply, go to inside.nd.edu the click on HOME UNDER THE DOME in the RESIDENCE LIFE AND HOUSING box on the STUDENT LIFE TAB using Internet Explorer 5.0 or Netscape 7.0.

  2. How do I activate my e-mail address/netID/password?

The Office of Information Technologies (OIT) has step-by-step instructions on everything you need to do to activate your netID, password, and e-mail account.

To apply, go to inside.nd.edu then click the Student tab at the top of the screen. Within the Student tab, locate the Student Services channel. There, you will find a link for student housing at Home Under the Dome. Once you are logged in, select the Apply for Housing option and follow the directions.

  3. Do I need to complete an application if I plan on attending the Summer Session?

Yes. There are two applications available to you at this time. The first is for housing for Summer 2006 and the second application is for the Wait List application. If you plan on attending summer session and require on-campus housing, please complete the Summer 2006 application.

  4. Am I eligible to live on-campus if I am a part-time student?

You must be a full-time, degree-seeking student (as defined by the Academic Code) to be eligible to live on-campus.

  5. Where do I go for my student identification card?

Visit Card Services for information about getting your student identification card upon your arrival to campus. They are located in the lower level of the South Dining Hall. Card Services will also be happy to arrange for Domer Dollars (a debit-card system using your student identification card) to be placed on your account.

  6. What type of housing options are there?

Undergraduate students live in one of 27 single-sex residence halls; 14 halls house male students and 13 halls house female students.

Apartment style housing exists for graduate students, 5 th year students, married students, and students with families. Fischer-O’Hara Grace apartments house non-married graduate and 5 th year students. The University Village and Cripe Street Apartments house married students and students with children.

  7. What do the residence halls and apartment complexes look like?

There are links on our website for each type of housing. Exterior and interior photos, profiles of the communities and residence halls and information about floor plans are all easily viewable.

  8. What are the housing rates?

Rates and deposit information may be found on the Student Accounts website.

  9. Why do I need to create a Wait List application?

Incoming transfer students, new graduate students, students who take a leave of absence, students who withdraw from the University, or students who currently live off-campus and are considering moving back on campus are placed on a Wait List for housing and are assigned as space becomes available.

To place yourself on the Wait List, go to inside.nd.edu then click on HOME UNDER THE DOME in the RESIDENCE LIFE AND HOUSING box on the STUDENT LIFE TAB using Internet Exploer 5.0 or Netscape 7.0.

  10. I will be abroad with another University (non-ND program), or taking a Leave of Absence. What should I do?

Incoming transfer students, students who take a leave of absence, students who withdrawal from the University, or students who currently live off-campus and are considering moving back on campus are placed on a Wait List for housing and are placed as space becomes available.

To place yourself on the Wait List, go to inside.nd.edu, then click on HOME UNDER THE DOME in the RESIDENCE LIFE AND HOUSING box on the STUDENT LIFE TAB using Internet Exploer 5.0 or Netscape 7.0. Within the Home Under the Dome pages, you will find directions for completing the application. In the Tentative Arrival Date field, enter an approximate date of return (start date of the semester you would be returning to campus).

  11. I currently live off-campus and want to live on-campus next year. What should I do?

Students who live off-campus and are interested in living on-campus for the upcoming Academic year need to complete a Wait List application.

To place yourself on the Wait List, go to inside.nd.edu, then click on HOME UNDER THE DOME in the RESIDENCE LIFE AND HOUSING box on the STUDENT LIFE TAB using Internet Exploer 5.0 or Netscape 7.0.

As space becomes available, we will contact you with information about placement. Typically, these assignments are very last minute; placements may not occur until the week before school begins in August. Please contact us at orlh@nd.edu, by phone at (574)631-5878, or you may stop by our offices at 305 Main Building for further information.

  12. What if I don't know an exact arrival date?

While completing the application, you will be asked to select a tentative arrival date. This date is only intended to give us a basic idea as to when you would be starting at Notre Dame. This date will be finalized as assignments become available.

  13. I can't find my Wait List application once I go back to Home Under the Dome. What happened?

You only need to complete one Wait List application. Once you have completed the application, it is no longer viewable and/or editable. Should you have any questions or concerns about the application, please feel free to contact our office.

  14. Can I request to be assigned to a specific residence hall, room, or roommate?

We will not honor requests for special housing arrangements unless there is a medical need that requires an accommodation. All requests for medical accommodation must be accompanied by medical documentation from your physician.

  15. When will I receive my housing assignment?

After you place yourself on the Wait List, a lottery for a numerical placement on the list is completed in early July. Assignments are then done in lottery number order. Over the summer you will be contacted if there is an opening on-campus for you. Typically, these assignments are very last minute; placements may not occur until the week before school begins in August. For additional information about halls and housing assignments click here.

  16. When can I move in?

A listing of important housing dates can be found on our website.

  17. Should I be looking for off-campus housing?

While waiting for an offer for on-campus housing may be stressful, typically we can place a majority of the students on the Wait List prior to the beginning of the academic year. However, many of these assignments are very last minute. You may want to visit our off-campus listings to become familiar with types of housing available.

  18. Can you help me find off-campus housing?

We cannot make any recommendations. We provide the listings merely as a courtesy to students at the University of Notre Dame. The information on the website is provided to make you aware of issues surrounding off campus living. The University has not inspected any properties listed and cannot vouch for the content, accuracy or reliability of any of the information provided by landlords/property managers.

  19. Should I sign a lease?

If at all possible, hold off signing a long-term lease or making off-campus arrangements that are difficult to break on short notice. That way, if we call you in mid-August with an offer, you do not face the dilemma of breaking a long-term lease or losing out on an on-campus assignment.

  20. How do I find out more about Orientation Weekend?

The Office of First Year of Studies coordinates all the events over Orientation Weekend (including orientation for transfer students). From your arrival to campus on Friday to Mass on Sunday, your weekend will be one of the most memorable events at Notre Dame.

  21. Who should I turn to if I have more questions?

ORLH staff members are available to assist you with your questions. Our office is open from 8:00 to 5:00 (D.S.T.) Monday through Friday. You may stop by our office in the Main Building, e-mail us your question to orlh@nd.edu, or call us at (574)631-5878.

If you have technical questions in regards to inside.nd.edu you may contact the OIT help desk at (574)631-8111.
