Office of Residence Life and Housing Gathering Outside BP

ON-CAMPUS HOUSING ASSIGNMENTS University of Notre Dame

Room assignments are made according to the following guidelines:

  • Non-married, first-year students are required to live in a residence hall, unless living at home.
  • Rising sophomores and juniors renewing their contracts within the same hall will receive consideration in the following year's room assignment according to the procedures of that particular hall.
  • Rising seniors and those studying in a Notre Dame or Saint Mary's College-sponsored overseas program will receive the same consideration as sophomores and juniors if sufficient spaces on campus are available.
  • Readmitted, transfer, and students returning from a leave of absence must request placement on a waiting list in the Office of Residence Life and Housing and will be placed when space becomes available.

NOTE: Graduate students are assigned housing space through a lottery system which is implemented by the Office of Residence Life and Housing.
